Fear of flying? Hospitals may be scarier!

Most of us have our own individual fears. Whether they are unreasonable or completely justified makes really no difference the fear is still there. Fear is fear, and it can have an extreme impact on the way we live our lives. I have done a lot of traveling in my life and I have bumped into many people with the fear of flying.

If you are one of those flight-frightened readers, there is good news for you. However, the good news comes in the form of some shockingly bad news. What is it? You are less likely to die in a plane accident than you are to die due to a medical accident at a hospital. Is there something wrong with this picture?

According to a report from the World Health Organization, deadly plane accidents are much less common than fatal hospital errors:

  • The chance of dying in a plane crash is reportedly 1 out of 10 million
  • The chance of dying as a result of a medical accident is 1 out of 300

The statistics are alarming, however our intention is not to scare you into avoiding the hospital. The data is intended to inspire you as a patient to be extremely vigilant about safety. Hospitals and their medical staff owe it to patients and their families to live up to proper safety standards.

If you are a patient or medical professional and you don’t believe the standard is not strict or efficient enough, please for change. As patients, we shouldn’t be responsible to know everything about what a doctor or nurse is doing, but we certainly have the right to speak up or ask questions when we are worried. Asking a simple question could mean the difference between life and death.

While the statistics regarding hospital errors can be disturbing, it is no surprise that medical malpractice is a problem in the US as well as here in Utah. We at the law offices of Kristopher Greenwood believe that error prevention is the most important way to tackle the problem, but for the families whom prevention fails or comes too late, seeking justice through a personal injury suit at least holds the negligent accountable.

At Kristopher K Greenwood LC, we have a proven track record, experience, and we will aggressively pursue your defense.
