Accidents happen for a variety of reasons, many of which are not related to the use of alcohol or drugs. Despite this fact, a man is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol after a bizarre accident in a Utah neighborhood. Authorities are awaiting the results of a blood alcohol test to determine whether their suspicions were correct.
The man and his wife were driving through the neighborhood when, for an as yet unknown reason, the 52-year-old driver suddenly accelerated. He then lost control of the minivan he was driving, and it ended up crashing into a house. The minivan hit, and then bounced off, a load-bearing wall of the home.
The damage was significant enough to require the occupants of the Utah home to vacate it for their own safety. Luckily, no one in the home was injured because of the wreck. The husband and wife in the vehicle seemed to only have suffered minor injuries, but they were taken to a local hospital to be sure.
When police arrived at the scene, they claim to have smelled alcohol on the man’s breath. For this reason, a blood sample was taken for testing. He was not arrested at that time.
If the blood test reveals that the man was considered to be legally driving under the influence of alcohol, charges may be filed against him. It might be in his best interest to enlist the assistance of criminal defense counsel sooner rather than later in order to protect his rights. Depending on the results of the blood test, part of his defense may include challenging the veracity of the blood test. Moreover, a review the circumstances surrounding the crash and all of his contact with officials from the time they arrived at the scene is in order.
