DUI charge results from fatal Utah crash

When a car accident results in a fatality, the driver could end up facing multiple charges. If authorities suspect that alcohol played a role, charges for DUI could result, and the fact that a fatality occurred could also lead to more serious charges being filed as well. Of course, whatever allegations may be leveled against a driver in this type of situation, he or she has the right to defend against them.

One man in Utah is currently facing such a predicament after recently being taken into custody. Reports stated that the man was driving a vehicle when he apparently lost control, which resulted in the vehicle overturning onto a grassy median. A passenger in the vehicle was partially ejected and suffered fatal injuries after the vehicle landed on top of him.

The driver of the vehicle did not suffer any injuries in the incident, but authorities suspected that he was under the influence at the time of the crash. He allegedly stated that he had consumed alcohol, and his blood-alcohol concentration level was reported as being .18 percent. The man is currently facing charges for DUI, vehicular homicide and other allegations.

A meaningful defense may help the man address the charges that he currently faces. Even if evidence seems stacked against him, he is presumed innocent until -- and only if -- he is convicted of the DUI charge and/or other allegations in a court of law. Information on criminal proceedings for this type of case in Utah may help him better understand what to expect.
