It is not easy to know how long divorce will take

On Behalf of | Mar 2, 2020 | Divorce

When ending a marriage, having more than a little patience is often required. After all, the legal process associated with divorce can have many hoops to jump through, and Utah residents going through these proceedings often have to wait on paperwork to be processed and other details that are outside of their control. Still, individuals may wonder how long their cases will take.

Of course, the answer to that question is that it depends on the circumstances. State laws, specific details of the negotiations and court order, whether children are involved, and other factors unique to each case will influence how long a case actually takes. For some parties who can agree on most aspects and do not spend much time fighting, the process may go relatively quickly. For those who face conflict around every turn, a lengthy process is likely.

As mentioned, a lot of the process may involve waiting for paperwork. For example, it could take time for the attorneys involved to draw up necessary documents. On top of that, the judge will need time to review and finalize the divorce documents. It is also important to remember that litigation and settlement agreements can have different completion times.

When looking for an exact amount of time that a divorce will take, the answer is not easy to come by. Still, Utah residents can work with their legal counsel to come up with a realistic estimated time table to help keep matters moving forward. It may also be worthwhile for concerned parties to discuss ways in which they may be able to help their cases move along.
