Utah fire captain accused of DUI after having accident

On Behalf of | Sep 30, 2013 | DUI

When an accident occurs, it is the responsibility of the police to determine how the accident occurred and who is at fault. Many factors contribute to accidents such as speed, distracted drivers and even drunk driving. Once police determine who is at fault in an accident, charges such as reckless driver or DUI may be filed against the party found to be responsible.

For instance, a Utah fire captain was recently taken into custody after he was involved in an accident. Police believe that the man was impaired at the time. The fireman contacted the department that he works for to inform them of the incident.

Until the investigation is complete, the captain is on administrative leave. He has been with the Weber Fire District since 2006. Fortunately, his supervisors are willing to wait until they have all of the relevant information before deciding whether to terminate the man’s employment with the department.

The accident happened on Aug. 21, and as of the date of this writing, the man hasn’t been officially charged. He was released from custody the same day the crash occurred. It is not known what circumstances led police to believe that the captain was intoxicated. Further, it has not been revealed whether police are waiting for toxicology results before making the final determination of whether to file charges.

The outcome of the investigation and any criminal charges that follow may not only affect this man’s freedom, but also his career. As the investigation continues, it may benefit the Utah man to begin building his defense to a possible DUI charge. A review of the circumstances surrounding his arrest could be in order as well.
