Prosecutors seeking felony DUI charge by holding trio of trials

In Utah, prosecutors have the option of charging a defendant with felony drinking and driving if the defendant is arrested on suspicion of DUI and has two prior DUI convictions on his or her record. Utah judge upholds custody of adopted child to biological father

A U.S. Army drill sergeant was recently awarded custody of his 22-month old daughter who had been put up for adoption by the baby's mother. The two parents were married at the time and the wife was pregnant. They have since gotten a divorce and a child custody case has ensued between the man and the couple who adopted his baby girl without his knowledge or consent.

Ex-Utah trooper facing civil lawsuit for false DUI arrest

A female corporal in the Utah Highway Patrol was fired after accusations came to light that she engaged in falsely arresting drivers for DUI when they had, in fact, done nothing wrong, or had not reached the levels of intoxication that she claimed. The sheer number of DUI arrests she racked up earned her praise from her superiors and led her to win the coveted title of trooper of the year in 2007 before the dubious nature of the arrests came to light.

When parents in Utah get a divorce, child custody issues frequently are a major issue for them to settle or, if necessary, the court to decide. But there can be more subtle questions that no one conceives of when negotiating a settlement but become major sources of conflict in the months or years to come.
