Utah man faces charges for driving under the influence of alcohol

On Behalf of | Dec 4, 2014 | DUI

The Salt Lake City Justice Court will reportedly consider the case of a 76-year-old man who drove onto the Legacy Bridge and crashed his car. He is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with the incident. The man, who the authorities claim appeared confused, was said to be attempting to find where a lecture was taking place.

Authorities reported that the man cooperated with them. He was given two separate breath tests. The initial test showed his blood-alcohol content to be .099. A second test administered by U Police with what was called the “official” intoxilizer test indicated his BAC of .102.

Even so, U Police decided not to transport the man to the jail. He was sent home in a cab, which is not how things are normally done. The man allegedly told the police that the night before the accident, he consumed two glasses of wine. Despite the fact that the area on and around Legacy Bridge is ordinarily busy, no one was hurt in the accident. It appears that the majority of the damage done to the car and the bridge was to the paint.

The circumstances surrounding this alleged driving under the influence of alcohol incident do not appear to be typical. Regardless, a conviction could result in a driver’s license suspension, a fine or even jail time. The Utah man’s criminal defense counsel will need to review both breath tests, all of the statements made by the man and police and any other evidence prosecutors in Salt Lake City intend to use in court.
