When individuals find the person they believe will be the love of their life, they often want to shout it to the world. As a result, many Utah residents may end up having lavish weddings as a way to show their love. However, the results of a recent study that looked at wedding costs and divorce rates may be of interest.
The report indicated that individuals who spent more on engagement rings and weddings may face a higher chance of divorcing later on. Apparently, the study involving over 3,000 people showed that men were more likely to get divorced if their weddings cost in the range of $5,000 to $10,000. Men whose weddings came in under the $1,000 mark apparently saw half the risk as the previous group of men. Additionally, women were 1.6 times more likely to get divorced if their weddings cost more than $20,000.
The issue could arise even before the the costs of caterers and flower arrangements come in. The study also showed that couples were more likely to end their marriages if the engagement ring cost between $2,000 and $4,000. Individuals whose rings cost between $500 and $2,000 were not as likely to dissolve their marriages.
Divorce statistics are always somewhat unsettling, but there really are no specific predictors. Many individuals with expensive tastes may have marriages that last a lifetime, and regardless of financial status, any couple could hit bumps in the road that seem insurmountable. In the event that ending their marriages stands as their best option, Utah residents in this predicament may want to gain more information on their legal options.
