Tips for achieving desired child custody outcomes

On Behalf of | Aug 4, 2020 | Divorce

Being a parent is a difficult job. No matter how much Utah residents love their children, they will face challenges as they raise their kids into adults. For some, the situation could become more difficult if the parents choose to divorce. If that happens, one parent may have to do his or her best to work toward obtaining child custody.

The court takes custody matters seriously, and in some cases, it is not always easy for a parent to receive the custody outcome he or she desires. When it comes to working toward the desired result, parents may want to show the court that they truly want to play an active role in their kids’ lives. For example, parents should always be on time when picking up the kids, should show that they are willing to handle parental obligations and be willing to work with the other parent for the benefit of the kids.

Sometimes, even if one party is willing to work with the other parent, that other parent may not make it easy. It is possible that one parent will even try to make the other look bad to the court. If so, requesting an in-home custody evaluation could help the court obtain a clearer perspective of how a parent actually lives and hopefully dispel any attempts at sabotage by the other parent.

Child custody proceedings can be one of the most difficult parts of getting a divorce. Most Utah parents do not want to have limited time with their kids or feel as if they are bad parents because the court rules against them in custody hearings. If individuals do have such concerns, they may want to go over their legal rights and discuss their options with knowledgeable legal counsel.
